Applying for a Summer Job at Y.O.U.
How do I apply for the Y.O.U. Summer Youth Employment Program?
All registrations will be completed ONLINE during the official registration period (February 1st - May 1st).
To apply, you will need a mobile phone that can connect to internet, a tablet, or a desktop/laptop computer.
When the registration period opens, you will be able to start your application by visiting the Y.O.U. Summer Youth Employment Program webpage.
-
You will need to be able to provide the following:
Date of Birth
Email Address (Unique, not a parent’s/sibling’s)
Parent/Guardian Email Address (Unique, cannot be same as youth)
Home Mailing Address
Phone Numbers
Emergency Contact Information
You will also need to answer other general questions regarding your interests, family circumstances, etc.
-
No, you do not need your parent/guardian to apply. However, you should definitely let them know that you applied because they will be contacted if you are selected. It may be helpful to have them available to help you answer some of the registration questions.
Be sure to ask your parent for their email address before applying. You will need it.
-
Yes. Y.O.U. will only select applicants for the program from the current application period (February 1st - May 1st).
-
No. Each student applicant must complete their own application.
Each student applicant must have their own email account (different from a parent or a sibling) to be considered for selection.
-
If you have a smartphone with internet access, you may be able to use it to complete the application.
You can also ask to use a computer at your school or visit another local facility, such as a library, that may have computer resources open to the public.
-
You can sign up for a free email address through an email provider such as Google, Yahoo or iCloud.
You AND your parent/guardian must have an email address in order to complete the registration process.
After you register, Y.O.U. will use both of your email addresses to communicate with you throughout the process. You and your parent/guardian will need to check your email often.
-
Inform your parent/guardian of the following:
Y.O.U. does not share your email addresses outside of our organization.
To finish the application, Y.O.U. requires that you have your own email address to register. We will not select applications with the same email for parent and participant.
Participants will need their own email address to enter payroll punches in our timekeeping system and to complete work readiness activities online.
Having a professional email address is a huge part of being work ready. If you don’t have an email address yet, it’s a good idea to get one now so that you are prepared for other jobs in the future.
Email is the fastest and easiest way to register and stay in contact with us throughout the process.
Y.O.U. uses email addresses, phone numbers, and your home address to contact you about application updates and employment opportunities.
-
Yes, you can still register. Please provide an email address that you have regular access to so we can contact you if you are selected.
Once I complete the application, what happens next?
When the application is completed successfully, you will be sent a confirmation email (from noresponse@youthopportunities.org) informing you that you have applied for the Y.O.U. Summer Jobs Program. The confirmation will be sent to the email address you provide on your application as well as to your parent/guardian email address.
If you don’t see a confirmation email please check your spam or junk mail folder.
All applications are considered as part of our lottery selection process.
Notifications of lottery selection occur in early April through mid-May.
Submitting more than one application does not increase your chances of being selected through the lottery.
Am I guaranteed a job placement once I apply?
No, job placement is not guaranteed. Unfortunately, due to funding limitations, there are not enough jobs for every young person that applies. Many who apply will not get a summer job. We use a lottery process to select applications.
